The U2 Story On BBC Radio Two Tonight

18 Aug 2001
To coincide with the first of four London dates on Elevation 2001 tonight, Radio Two in the UK broadcasts the first of a two part documentary The U2 Story.

'Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen reflect on their twenty three years together,' reports the station's website. 'From meeting at school in Dublin, their early incarnations as 'Feedback'and 'The Hype' and the eventual blossoming of 'U2' in the late seventies, to their current position as the biggest band in the world.

'The band pay tribute to some of the key figures in their success, including manager Paul McGuinness and producer Brian Eno who also contribute to the programme. They also discuss some of their best known songs, including 'I Will Follow', 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)', 'With or Without You' and 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For'.

'During the programme you can hear the band talk about some of the key moments in their career, including their appearance at Live Aid in 1985 and the success of 'The Joshua Tree' album, which confirmed their status as the world's biggest band.

They also reflect on their subsequent changes of direction with the 'Zooropa' and 'Pop' albums and the logistics of bringing massive live shows like 'Zoo TV' and 'Popmart' on the road.

With the release of their current album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind,' U2 have reclaimed the heights they first reached with 'The Joshua Tree'.  With this in mind, the band talk about reconnecting with their roots with the album and their determination to stay at the top of their game.'
