'We hear their heartbeat...'

Mothers of the Disappeared is in the set tonight and Edge is on the charango for a moving finale to the South American tour. Here's the highlights and what they played.

The second show in Buenos Aires, again being filmed in 3D, was, if anything, even stronger than the night before, opening in a haze of blue and white Argentine flags which, before you knew it, had been transformed into a dazzling spectacle of Latin American flags for Streets.

'Dr. Martin Luther Kings dream is not just an American dream,' rapped Bono.
'Not just a European dream
It's a Latin American dream
I want to wake up in the dream
A dream for Peru
For Mexico
For Brazil
For Chile
For Argentina
Argentina
Argentina...'

The entire city seemed to be joining in on every word all night, the universal language of rock'n'roll. During The Fly Bono slipped in some 'Can't Get No Satisfaction' in homage to the Rolling Stones who were here just a little while back but everyone was pretty satisfied tonight, as illustrated in the U2.Com diary of show designer Willie Williams. overseeing both a live TV shoot and the 3D cameras: 'We were blessed with a beautiful night and a great performance, so the footage couldn't be better. I was in the control room again with Allen Branton our TV lighting guru who sat before one pile of video monitors showing what the 3D cameras were seeing, plus another showing what the Argentine live broadcast cameras were seeing. The two versions of the show could not have looked more different, to the point where it was hard to believe that these were two views of the same show, happening outside the window. Most remarkably of all, both looked great....'

And it was an incredibly emotional climax when Edge took up the charango for an acoustic version of Mothers of the Disappeared, dedicated to Madres de Plaza de Mayo (the Argentinian Mothers of the Disappeared) who the band first met in this city on the PopMart tour. 'The most beautiful mothers in the world..' as Bono called them.

With Edge in the starring role until the heartbeat fades out, we are left with the singing and clapping of an audience for whom this song has such emotional power. Here's what they played.
